ABOUT OUR SEPTEMBER 2020 FEATURED RECIPIENT

The mission of Bootstraps, in partnership with the community, is to support the continuing education of promising students in the mountain area, with an emphasis on financial need.

URGENT NEEDS

  • The devastating effects of the pandemic have brought on difficult challenges for our vulnerable scholarship and loan recipients. Many of our scholars have lost their part-time jobs and are facing difficulties in paying their bills. These students lack financial resources to pay for utilities, rent, food, supplies and technology needed to continue their education. This March, the Bootstraps Executive Committee decided to award a limited number of emergency funding interest-free loans to help marginalized students with their dire needs.

  • The pandemic has severely limited our fundraising capacity. We have had to postpone two events this spring. Although we are rescheduling these events, revenue generated may be limited due to the current economic condition. We also had to cancel our annual donor-scholar reception, which is critical to the stewardship of donor relations. In place of the reception, we are offering videos of the students. Our fall events are also in jeopardy, as a resurgence of the virus shutting down the economy again is possible.
