Upcoming Programs

Add Adopt-A-Platoon Year-Long Service Leadership Project We sponsor between 2-4 military platoons in Irac or Afghanistan. When possible, we pick platoons containing men and women from the Evergreen Area. We send off Boxes of personal items, books and magazines, batteries, cameras, movies, and tons more. The Platoon can is passed around at each meeting and the majority of expense for this project is donated by the membership of Blue Spruce.

January

Planning begins for this year’s Big Chili Cook-off, Music and Art Festival. It’s a 9-month job!! In addition to being the events organizing sponsor through our 501C3 Big Chili Board, Blue Spruce also provides the Kiwanis Kids Area. New Board Members always welcome.

February

Cowboy Breakfast at Wilmot Elementary. Dads and Kindergarteners dress in Cowboy outfits and Blue Spruce cooks the flapjacks and sausage and provides a Western meal for all.  “Yee Haw”

March

Rocky Mountain District Kiwanis Midwinter Conference Held

April

Our Sponsored Cub Scout Pack 119 holds their Pinewood Derby. We help with the Bar BQ Lunch

May

Mountain Area Prayer Breakfast. Along with the 2 other Mountain Area Kiwanis Clubs and the Mountain Churches we help organize this annual nondenominational time of reflection.

June

Session 1 of Camp Comfort.  Blue Spruce joins with Trout Unlimited in teaching kids to fish.  These children are attending a weekend long session helping them to cope with the lost of a parent, sibling, other family member or close friend. We provide a lively and fun break in their stressful weekend tasks.

Rodeo Pancake Breakfast.  Under the shade of the towering cottonwoods along Bear Creek right downtown, we provide an all-you-care-to-eat pancake breakfast to Buckaroos of all sizes. Tether your ponies and join us

Kiwanis International Convention at the end of June is held in a different city of the Kiwanis World each year.  What Country will we visit next?

July

The Triple Bypass Bike challenge.  Riders from all over the world attend this premier 120-mile mountain ride. We provide carbs and cheers as make it up Squaw Pass the first of 3 passes.  Dressed in our P. J’s dancing to music and handing fruit bagels and drinks. It is a Blast.

Summerfest where we help park the hundreds of cars folks drive to event.

September

The Big Chili Cook-off, Music and Arts Festival.  This is the Mountain Area’s premier entertainment and philanthropic event of the year. After 10 months of planning and organizing, the big day is here.  Family fun for all and well deserved recognition and financial support of our 7 groups of volunteer firefighters and Blue Spruce Kiwanis Foundation. Funds go directly to the men and women who protect us and used for their discretionary needs. You don’t want to miss this one!

Child Safety Day. Blue spruce performs bike helmet inspections, proper fitting of helmets and we distribute free helmets to those who need one. Correct fitting of child car restraints and a bike Rodeo round out the day.

Blue Spruce Kiwanis Officer Installation Banquet. We applaud our officers for their hard work over the past year and welcome our new crew as they take over the next year.

October

Key Leader. Kiwanis International provides the premier High School Student Service Leadership program in the world. Over 250 weekend events are held in the US and around the globe each year. This program is open to any 14-18 year old students. Our program is at Windy Peak Outdoor Lab School. Come watch these young leaders transform.
                         
Downtown Evergreen Halloween Walk. Sporting Orange vests and Blue Hats, we help ensure safe street crossing for all the Trick or Treaters.

November

Checks are being distributed to our Firefighters

December

Downtown Winter Walk street crossing safety, set-up for Skate-the-Lake luminaries and fire barrels and the Angel Tree project round out our hands-on activities and philanthropic donations in the Evergreen Community. As a club, we have our annual ‘Tween Party (between Christmas and New Years) to celebrate another good year of Service Leadership.

Division of Wildlife Hunt Masters Program Each year members of Blue Spruce participate in this young hunter program. Teens are given hunting/firearms training, camp out over a weekend and participate in a chaperoned hunt with qualified and experienced hunters from the club. They may hunt deer or elk or birds and we have more than one program a year.
